The Ripple of Self-Healing: Sending Distance Reiki to My Dad
A personal reflection on sending distance Reiki to my father during the final chapter of his life. Through love, uncertainty, and moments of quiet connection, I discovered that healing is not always about changing an outcome, but about offering comfort, compassion, and peace to both the giver and receiver.

In the last year of my dad’s life, he moved many times. Sometimes he was in the senior home, then the hospital, then the rehab center. His heart condition went up and down. My stepmom gave me every update. My dad was too weak to talk much on the phone. When he was able to speak, our conversations lasted only a few seconds.
At that time, I was taking my Reiki Master Training. I started to send Distance Reiki to my dad every week.
Reiki Across the Ocean
I could not be there with him in person. But Reiki gave me a way to connect with him, no matter the outcome. Many times, my stepmom shared her worry whether he could make it, since he had faced some very difficult conditions. Then, after some time, his condition became more stable. He would move from hospital back to rehab, and later return to the senior home again.
This cycle happened many times for over a year. I cannot say Reiki was the only reason, because there were many factors in his care. Still, sending Reiki gave me comfort. It helped me feel I was part of his healing journey, even from far away.
What is Distance Reiki?
Distance Reiki is based on the understanding that energy has no boundaries. It can travel across space and time. By using Reiki symbols and intention, the practitioner connects with the recipient and channels healing energy, even if they are in another city or country. For many people, Distance Reiki feels just as calming and supportive as an in-person session.
The Ripple of Healing
Reiki not only supported my dad. It also supported me. Each time I sent Reiki, I felt calmer inside. I could hold his situation with more peace, even when I could not change it.
Healing is not always about fixing what is broken. It is also about bringing care, comfort, and love - about creating a softer space in hard times. The energy goes out in ripples. It touches the one who receives, but it also changes the one who gives.
Sending Light for His Transition
When I knew his passing was close, I sent Reiki with a simple vision. I imagined him surrounded by white light - calm, peaceful and free from pain. Holding this picture gave me comfort. I cannot know how exactly what he experienced, but I felt it was a gentle path for him than continuing to struggle in his body.
My Reflection
Reiki showed me that love has no limit. Even when we cannot be with someone, even when words are few, we can still connect across time and space. Reiki is a way to care, to send peace, and to remember that healing always flows in both directions - to the one who receives and to the one who gives.
With gratitude,
Mandy
