Following the Inner Voice That Moves You

Beneath the noise of expectations and everyday responsibilities, there is often a quieter voice guiding us. A reflection on listening inward, trusting our instincts, and allowing our own rhythm to lead the way.

When we talk about the inner voice,
it's often described as intuition - something we feel or sense within.

But the inner voice is not only something we hear.

It is something we experience through the body. And it is something we are meant to express.

What I Mean by “Inner Voice”
When I say "inner voice," I'm not only talking about intuition.
I'm also including what we feel in the body - tightness, discomfort, ease, or small changes that show up throughout the day.

These are all ways our body and inner state are speaking to us.
And often, what we feel inside naturally wants to move and express itself in some way.

Here, the inner voice is not only something to follow.
It is something we can learn to listen to, respond to, and express through the body.

🌿
The Body Is Always Speaking
Our inner voice often begins as a signal.

A small ache in the back.
A tightness in the jaw.
An unsettled stomach.
A change in the breath.
Even something as subtle as a shift in the skin.

These are not random.

They reflect our physical health, our emotional state,
and how we are responding to our lives.

The body and emotions are always connected.
Sometimes these signals point to something deeper -
a sense of alignment, or something that feels off.

You can think of these as different "volumes" of the inner voice.

Some are quite.
Some get louder over time.

But all of them are ways your system communicates with you.

🌿Listening Is a Skill
The body is always speaking.

The question is:
Are we allowing ourselves to listen?

Many of us are used to:

  • Moving past discomfort

  • ignoring small signals

  • waiting until something becomes a problem

So the listening becomes less available.

Not because the voice disappears -
but because our attention is somewhere else.

Listening is a skill we can return to
and gradually become more sensitive to.

🌿 The Inner Voice Is Also Expression
The inner voice is not meant to stay inside.

What we feel internally often wants to move outward -
through the body, emotion, and action.

Sometimes through our actual voice:

  • speaking

  • singing

  • chanting

Sometimes through movement:

  • stretching

  • walking

  • dancing

Sometimes through creation:

  • making art

  • cooking

  • gardening

These are not separate from healing.
They are ways the body completes what it is feeling.

🌿 Quiet Inside, Powerful When Expressed
Inside, the inner voice can be very quiet.

But when very we allow it to be expressed,
it often becomes clear and strong.

Not forceful -
but steady, alive, and grounded.

When we feel inside
and how we move in the world
begin to feel connected.

🌿 When the Inner Voice Speaks Quickly
Sometimes, the inner voice shows up very quickly.

You might walk into a room
and suddenly feel like you want to leave.

Nothing obvious is wrong.
You don't know why.

But something in your body says,
"Go."

And you do.

Later, you may not be able to explain it.
But in that moment, you trusted the signal.

And sometimes, that choice
takes you out of a situation that could have been uncomfortable...
or even harmful.

🌿 It Doesn't Always Come With an Explanation
These moments don't come with logic.

They show up as:

  • a tightening in the body

  • a sudden alertness

  • discomfort that feels out of place

  • a clear "no" without words

The mind may try to explain or question it.
But the body already knows.

🌿 The Ability Is Already Within You
This way of listening and responding
is not something we need to learn from the beginning.

It is something we already have.

A natural ability to:
sense,
notice,
and respond.

This is part of our innate capacity for health and balance.

Everyone has access to it.

The difference is not in having it -
but in allowing it.

.

🌿 A Simple Practice
Pause for a moment during your day and ask:
What is my body saying right now?

Then notice:

  • Is there tension somewhere?

  • Is the breath easy or restricted?

  • Is there any subtle discomfort?

And then:
If this could express itself, how would it move?

Maybe:

  • a breath deepens

  • the shoulders soften

  • the body shifts

  • a sound wants to come out

Follow it, just a little.

🌿 Closing
The inner voice is always present.

It speaks through the body.
It reflects our physical and emotional state.
It guides you in small and immediate ways.

And it also wants to be expressed.

When it also wants to be expressed.

When you begin to allow both - listening and expression -
you build a more complete relationship with yourself.

Not just hearing.
but responding.

Not just noticing,
but allowing movement.

And from there,
life doesn't feel like something you have to push.

It becomes something you are already moving with.

With gratitude,
Mandy
