Friendsgiving Reflections: The Healing Power of Friendship
A heartfelt reflection on friendship, gratitude, and the healing power of connection. Through shared experiences, a special retreat, and moments of giving and receiving Reiki, we are reminded how friendship can nourish, support, and carry us through life's challenges.

This Thanksgiving, I gathered with my closest friends and their families—some I’ve known for over twenty years. As we sat around the table sharing laughter, stories, and food, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the bond we’ve built through time, care, and love.
It also reminded me of something truly special we shared earlier this fall—our friends’ retreat in October. It was our first time spending a weekend together, just us, without partners or children, to celebrate friendship, healing, and my 50th birthday.
The idea for the retreat began months earlier, when our dear friend J shared that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. That night at dinner, our circle of friends opened our hearts with both concern and care. Each of us offered support in our own way—sending Reiki, offering prayers, sharing medical guidance, or simply checking in with loving messages.
Thankfully, J’s surgery and radiation treatment went well, and her strength and spirit shone through. As she completed her treatment, I felt a deep calling for us to gather—to pause, breathe, and celebrate life together.
So, in October, we came together for a weekend of yoga, hiking, nourishing meals, rest, and endless conversations. We shared memories and stories—old and new—and it felt as if we could talk forever. One evening, we turned the yoga studio into a cozy sanctuary — soft lights, gentle music, and everyone lying in restorative poses. I went around and offered each friend a mini Reiki session, one by one. As I listened closely to what each person needed in that moment, I felt grateful for the gift of Reiki — to be able to share it with them, and to receive their trust, support, and love that have carried us through the years.
Even in a group setting, each of us had our own quiet, individual moment — a private exchange of energy and gratitude that connected us all in a circle of peace and friendship.
Friendship, I realized, is one of the most profound forms of healing. It reminds us that care is never one-directional—it moves in ripples, from one heart to another.
As I look back on this year, I feel deeply grateful—for health, for connection, and for the healing power of friendship. May this season remind you of the people and moments that bring you peace and joy.
With gratitude,
Mandy
