RECLAIMING RECESS

This week, a friend of mine posted a video of a Pillow Fight in Montreal on Facebook.  I realized April 2nd (last Saturday) was the 6th annual of Pillow Fight Day in New York City, and the 4th annual of the world. This is so cool!!!

International Pillow Fight Day is part of the urban playground movement that encourages people to organize free, fun, all ages events in the larger public space around the world.  From their website, “One of our goals is to make these unique happenings in public space become a significant part of popular culture, partially replacing passive, non-social consumption experiences like watching television, and consciously celebrating public spaces in our cities as our ‘urban living rooms.’ The result, we hope, will be a global community of participants in a world where people are constantly organizing and attending these happenings in every major city in the world.”

It is never too late to find out a creative, fun and inspiring event especially in New York City.  It is important to be reminded to play like a child: creatively and spontaneously, regardless of age, to reconnect the nature of our being – ease, flow and fun.

Recently, a friend of mine shared a conversation he had with his 10 years old niece. The little girl commented on her uncle’s ex-girlfriend. When they had the ‘uncle and me’ time, the nice said “She (the ex-girlfriend) didn’t play with us and showed she didn’t like us”. The comment sounded truthful response. All children have a natural joy and freedom. They respond to the world more spontaneously and honestly than grown-ups. When something doesn’t align with their nature, they say it out loud without polish and hesitation. They have no resistance or attachment; thoughts just come and go. When they are happy, they smile. When they are sad, they cry.

People adore children because they remind us our childhood – the pure joy, boundless thoughts and imagination.  When we get in touch with our inner child, we find playfulness anytime, anywhere, even though we have accumulated responsibilities along the journey of growing up.  Here is my new ‘mantra’: I AM A CHILD. I AM SILLY, IMAGINATIVE, EXCITED AND FUN. I LOVE MY PLAYFULNESS AND MY SENSE OF HUMOUR.  LIFE IS MY PLAYGROUD. I LOVE TO SHARE THIS PURE JOY AND FREEDOM WITH PEOPLE AROUND ME.  LIFE IS SO GOOD TO ME AS ALWAYS.  THANKS FOR PLAYING WITH ME ALL THE TIME.

Come play with me!

Your playful friend,
Mandy :)
